Other than the obvious holiday traditions, have you ever included any personal or family traditions/customs in your stories?
I mostly try to separate personal things from my stories. So, most of my stores actually does not reflect a lot of my family's own traditions and/or customs. When thinking about it, I am not even sure if my family have any traditions of our own. I know through adoption, our traditions have been borrowed for the most part. This is a question that had me thinking though; that I stopped to review my work to see if I do include some of my own traditions or customs. If I do, it is purely unintentional because I prefer to separate myself and experiment with different traditions that is contrast to mines. Just because my characters behave this way or does something, that doesn't mean I personally do it or I have the same views.
Don't worry - a lot of people couldn't answer that one today. Guess we all keep our writing separate.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's just what was taught to do, keep your writing separate from personal stuff.
DeleteI find whenever something from my personal experiences pops up in one of my stories, it's usually accidental or a coincidence.
ReplyDeleteThat's very interesting. I feel my writing would be the same.
DeleteI had trouble thinking of traditions I've passed to my characters, too!
