IWSG: March 4 2020

It's time for another Insecure Writer's Support Group post. If you want to learn more about it, please visit here:

Other than the obvious holiday traditions, have you ever included any personal or family traditions/customs in your stories?

I mostly try to separate personal things from my stories. So, most of my stores actually does not reflect a lot of my family's own traditions and/or customs. When thinking about it, I am not even sure if my family have any traditions of our own. I know through adoption, our traditions have been borrowed for the most part. This is a question that had me thinking though; that I stopped to review my work to see if I do include some of my own traditions or customs. If I do, it is purely unintentional because I prefer to separate myself and experiment with different traditions that is contrast to mines. Just because my characters behave this way or does something, that doesn't mean I personally do it or I have the same views.

  1. Don't worry - a lot of people couldn't answer that one today. Guess we all keep our writing separate.

    1. I guess it's just what was taught to do, keep your writing separate from personal stuff.

  2. I find whenever something from my personal experiences pops up in one of my stories, it's usually accidental or a coincidence.

    1. That's very interesting. I feel my writing would be the same.

  3. I had trouble thinking of traditions I've passed to my characters, too!
